MEAL PLANNING FOR SCHOOL CHILD

The school child word is used for children between 7 to 12 years of age. in this is there is a steady growth of the child but the growth rate show down as compared to the previous years. Physical capacity of the child grows. mental ability is increased along with the increase in the physical activity.

In this period children imitate their elders and friends. Therefore food habit are largely influenced by them. in 8 to 10 years of age the children feel more hungry. they eat subsidy amount of food but being extremely restless they don't want to waste their time in having food.

Factors such as schoolwork emotional tension and fatigue due to playing for long hours affect their appetite.

MEAL PLANNING FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN:-

  • include items from each of the three force group energy giving body building and protective regulatory in each meal. 

  • include an animal protein source in each mail if possible and if income permits use cereal pulses combination to improve protein quality.

  • Include food rich in calcium and iron

  • The number of meals to be consumed should be sufficient.
  • give preferences to the liking of child but maintain the nutrients also.
  • food should be attractive small size and it should not be too hot or too cold.

School children have high energy requirement. 4 meal pattern could pose problem for some children. increasing mel frequency would therefore help the child eat smaller quantities at a time while taking in more food in the whole day.
